What is a Poker Ride?

On May 8th the Inland Empire Chapter of Backcountry Horsemen will hold its 16th Annual Poker Ride at Fish Trap Lake.

PokerRide2008What is a poker ride?  Participants ride a designated route with their friends at their own speed stopping at designated points to play a game (throw a dart, roll a marble, spin a dial) to determine a playing card.  After five stops they have the makings of a poker hand based on how well they did at the games.  Winners are the ones with the best and worst poker hands.  A rider may purchase as many hands as they wish to play (just like bingo).

Riders may start the ride as early as 9:00 AM or, be on site in time to start the ride no later than noon.  We expect everyone to return by 4 PM.   The route is a figure 8.  Riders may take a shortened version if they wish (the bottom half of the 8) and not miss any of the game stations.  You can make this decision when you reach game station number 4.  The upper loop of the trail closes at 2:00 PM.  The trail is well marked with engineering tape over relatively level but rocky ground and varies in difficulty.  Some experience is required.  There are gift certificate prizes for the two best hands and the worst hand as well as numerous door prizes.

The poker ride is a fundraiser for Backcountry Horsemen.  It helps BCH promote the Leave No Trace education program, perform trail maintenance and help preserve the rights of responsible horsemen to use horses and mules on public land.  We appreciate your support in these important tasks.

More information is available by contacting Ken Carmichael at 466-2225 or email inlandempire.bch@gmail.com; Remember there is a discount for pre-registration by May 5th so register early.
